What is the cost?

AP Exam cost is determined by CollegeBoard, about $100 per AP Exam. Fee reductions are available for students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. In PfISD, if you pass the exam, earning a 3 or higher you will be refunded for each exam passed.

There is currently no fee for dual credit classes taken on a Pfisd campus. There IS a cost charge for any class taken at ACC during the summer and any other courses Pfisd does not offer during the school day. Students may need to purchase text books and materials about $100-$200.

How to earn college credit?

Student registers for and takes the AP Exam. Exams are scored 1-5, Credit is determined by individual colleges (search here AP Credit Policy Search ) with a 3 or higher.

Student must pass a dual credit course with a C or higher to earn both high school and college credit through ACC. Earning a D in an ACC courses will earn you college credit but not high school credit.

What special recognition does a student earn?

Performance Acknowledgement earning a 3 or higher on an exam, AP Scholar, AP Capstone

Performance Acknowledgement earning 12 or more college credit hours

What are the Advantages?

Course and rigor is widely recognized by colleges/universities.

Student earns college credit as soon as the grade is posted on the college transcript.

What are the disadvantages?

College Credit is dependent on a single exam. 

If student does not pass college course, they do not get college credit. Not receiving college credit will impact their SAP (satisfactory academic progress) and this may impact financial aid opportunities when they apply to colleges/universities.
